Seventh essay about 「English and I」was written by Hayao Kawai. He is very famous Japanese psychologist. He introduced Jungian psychology in Japan. Therefore, He is the highest authority of this field in Japan. The tittle of essay is 「I am not good at English, that’s why...」

He think that his English skill is not good although he studied abroad in UCLA as a Fulbright student. I would like to point out his style of English studying before being a Fulbright student.

 I think that his style is interesting. For example, when he was an university student, he studied English in movie theater to watch American movies. And he also listened to Radio news spoken in English.

Maybe he improved his English skill through the practice. And when he studied abroad in UCLA and in Zurich, he overcome his poor English skill like a writing and speaking. 

But he also realized that translating Japanese thinking from Japanese to English is so hard. I really agree his opinion. 

 Because, I often try to write my articles of blog in English. But I often feel that it is hard. That is reason why, at first I always compose it in Japanese in my brain. Next, I always translate it from Japanese to English. The process is very hard, because I could not sometimes translate correctly. 

Maybe I think if my English is better, the hardship will disappear. But when will it happen? I do not know^^;

Sixth essay about 「English and I」was written by Main Kohda. She is an author in Japan after retiring from a foreign- owned financial institution. And she published some book about financial institution. The title of essay is 「that is why, English is just tool」

Before she had worked in investment bank which has a main bank in New York. Therefore, her co- workers are from many countries. It means that she can not work if she can understand English. The English which was used in the office was varied, because co-worker and her superior officer was from America, UK, Asia, the Middle East.

 It was very hard for she to accomplish her work, because she had never studied abroad. She qualified it was a history of hash guerilla war. Moreover the gap of language made her stress.

  However, she realized I came to this extreme office because of her desire. Nobody forced her to work the office. So she could have this funny experience, because she could use English. That’s why she knew if she can use English more and more, it will be possible of her to work very well.

After knowing this thing, she decided to polish her English to do the funny working. So she observed how to choose words, combine vocabulary, tell a joke and intonation. Next She imitated these ways. Finally, she could have confidence and did not fear working. That is to say, language is just a tool to exchange opinion.

 In my case, I chose Philippines to study abroad. This choice is also hash. For example, I had a trouble with office worker in my international office of University, because the officer did not work well. And When I went to Immigration and bank, I was waited over 7hours. It made me stress.

 But nobody forced me to study abroad. It is my voluntary intention. So the most important thing is ‘Do not make a complaint, realize it is trial for your future’

'English and I studies' (5) - confidence from friendly language

Fives essay about 「English and I」was written by Princess Tenko. She is one of famous magician in Japan. In 1988, She was invited in North Korea, and held a magic show. The tittle of essay is 「confidence is from friendly language」

At first, she pointed out that English which is studied in Japanese school is not useful in America, because speaking and accent are not different from Japan. When she was still a student, she went to America for her business. Then she thought so. 

After going back to Japan, English teacher asked her “what is it?” Then she answered ‘It’s butcher’s’ But the teacher said to her ‘No, it is meat’ Unfortunately, the teacher did not know meat has many kind of word by the figure.

 Second, she realized that English are variety by countries. For example, when she went to Malaysia, she and her manager could not understand English spoken by Malaysian staff.

So, she suggests that we should speak English more active with courage even if you make a mistake about grammar or accent. .

I think that some Japanese English teacher are not good at teaching English. Especially almost all them can not speak English fluently. Therefore, if there are a returnee students in the class, the teachers are often afraid of the student’s English skill. Because the students are better than the teachers. 

And in my case, I have lived in Philippines since last July. I always talk with many Filipino/Filipina in English. Almost all them can speak English fluently and clearly. But others are not. However, we can understand each other even if our English is not good. 

The most important thing is ‘Do not be shy and try to communicate with other people in English frequently’ If we can, we can progress our English easier.

'English and I' studies (4) - dolce please

Fourth essay about 「English and I」was written by Yutaka Sado. He is one of famous conductor in Japan. In 2011, he conducted in Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. And he will be a musical director in Tonkünstler Orchestra 2015. Maybe he will be as famous as Seiji Ozawa.

Seiji Ozawa became a musical director in Boston Symphony Orchestra, when he was 38 years old. He was also a musical director in Wiener Staatsoper from 2002 to 2003, from 2009 to 2010.

 The tittle of essay is 「Dolce Please」At first, Yutaka Sado wrote a story that he was an university student in Kyoto City University of Arts. Then, he was not good student. And he had a crisis to graduate from university, because his English grade was so bad. But, his English teacher made him pass another examination.
 

The exam was only that the teacher asked him ‘did you study English for this exam?’ He answered ‘Yes’ with a feeble voice. Then, the teacher said to him ‘OK, and you can go back to your home’ he could not understand the teacher’s saying. And the teacher also said to him ‘But I have one thing to tell you. It is that I want you to love English like music someday. And I think that you will need English. If you can understand these things, it is enough for you. Good Luck for your future’ 

When I read this story, I felt strong emotion like him. And later, he had a time to use English soon. Because he became a pupil of Leonard Bernstein. Now he can talk with many friends and workmates to use Italy, German, French and English in case by case. 

 And he can enjoy using Foreign languages from the day of another exam. Because he thinks that languages is very important for us to unit between people and people. 

In my case, November 4 was my birthday. Then many foreign friends congratulate my birthday over 40 countries. Then I tried to say ‘Thank you’ in their language. It was hard for me to say. But I also enjoy to use many language like him.

'English and I' Studies (3)- English for surviving in foreign countries

Third essay about 「English and I」was written by Shoji Kokami. He is one of famous movie director and dramatist in Japan. His title of the essay is 「English for surviving in foreign countries」This essay is base on his experience of studying abroad in London.

 When he was 39 years old, he studied abroad in London to research how to educate actors. Then, he realized that 70% is listening, 20% is speaking, 10% is reading for studying English.

And he thinks that it is important for us to listen to English as we can. That is to say we can listen to lecture’s explanation in English or not is a lifeline. So he felt convinced it through his studying abroad.

In Japan, if you ask the audiences ‘Do you have any questions? ’ in lecture meeting. Then Japanese audiences rarely ask questions even if they want to ask. The reason why almost all us are afraid of telling stupid questions.

On the other hand, he points out that audience often ask questions in foreign society, because their questions are always respected even if the questions are only telling a their feelings or impression.

Therefore, he also gives us some hints to survive in the English speaking countries. So, he recommends that we should have different impression from being in Japanese society, when you are in Japan.

He said to us 「Do not be a shy. You are respected by other people when you speak English. And if you can, I recommend that you should study listening thoroughly」

So, I always think that listening is very important for us to understand and communicate with other people. But I sometimes hesitate to ask questions in the class. So, I am still a ‘Typical Japanese people’.

"English and I " studies (2)- running for me with pleasure

Second essay about 「English and I」was written by Yuko Arimori. She is a famous marathon runner in Japan. She was a silver medalist in the Barcelona Olympics and a bronze medalist in the Atlanta Olympics. And the title of the essay is 「Running for me with many pleasure」

She has had trouble using English although she has living in America for 3 years. And she is sometimes seized with melancholia to communicate in English, because she sometimes makes a mistake in calling, did not understand English. 

But She thinks that English is useful, because she can talk with many people in English all over the world. And she knows if we can speak English even if the English is baby talk, we do not need to worry to go to every countries.

 Before, she belonged to company. Then she did not have a chance to communicate with foreign runner, even if she took part in foreign athletics contests. But after becoming independent of her company, she could have many opportunities to get some advice and talk with other athletes.  

Therefore, she is happy because she spends her time “for me” although she has some agonies. 

In my case, I am always glad that I can communicate with my foreign friends in English even if my English skill is not good. I agree her opinion, because I can communicate with people all over the world. If I cannot use English, I have never talked with Ugandan, Lebanese, Trinidadian and others. 

I also sometimes feel stressful to use English, because I cannot speak English correctly and appropriately. But joy of using English is more than the stressful every time.

"English and I" studies (1) Get used to disgrace yourself

「English and I」 is a book published by Iwanami book company in 2000. This book is that 23 Japanese people write 「English and I」 each other as an essay. So, I plan to pick up all the essaries and think about the topic.

 First essay, Tetsuya Chikushi wrote "English and I" that he thinks. The tittle is "Get used to disgrace yourself". And he was a newscaster in Japanese TV program and a Journalist. Unfortunately, he died because of cancer in 2008.

 At first, he points out that many Japanese people tense up too much in some big  international stages like the Olympic games. He thinks that the main reason is why many japanese people are controled their behavior by society and entrust thierseleves to the standard. Therefore, We must avoid "get used to disgrace oursellf" because almost all us care  estimation from our society. He also insist that the heteronomous norm will make us be paralyzed and hold our natural expression. 

 The reason why he pointed out these things he feels it relates to our face to English. That to say that English of Japanese people  looks like without self-confidence and awkward. But he also  discovered that he got used to, compromised, became a coolness and turned grow when he used his English.

 Finally, when He had to make a speach in english, he often said to audience 「 You will listen to MY ENGLISH. I had to learn diffrent language from ours, So it was hardship too much for me. Therefore, if you endure MY ENGLISH  for a little, it will be a draw.」

 In my case, before I was always ashame my english speaking skill. because, I could not express my atitude and opinion in English. But when I was a student in university, I took a lecture "English 4". The class was taught in english from start to last, because the proffesor was a native english speaker. At first, the students were 7 japanese and 3 americans. But later, students were 1 japanese(me) and 3 americans. So, allmost all japanese students stopped to attend the class except of me, because the proffesor always asked us to tell their opinion in english.

 Maybe, they could not endure the class. But I always attended the class every week although I didnot have enough skill to tell my opinion in english. the reason why I disliked to avoid the hardship.

 Of course, I sometimes feel to disgrace myself because I cannot tell my opinion in english very well.  but finally, I always think that do my best is enough. 

from Japanese high school to university in foreign country.

 Last night, it was so hot in my apartment. maybe it was around 30 degree. Moreover, I dont have an air conditioning. Thesedays, it is a bit hard for me to spend a hot night with only an electric fan. So I was thinking about English education in Japanese high school, because I could not sleep well.

 Generary speaking, it is very rare case to go on university in america after graduating from Japanese  high school. In my high school case, there were 320 classmates in my high school. But only 1 student went on communite college after graduating from high school.  I dont know what does he do now. But maybe, he works with engish skill. I sometimes regret why I didnot study abroad to other countries after graduating from high school.

 The reason why nobody reccomended me that i study abroad, I dont know how to study abroad, then I thought that I have to go on only Japanese university. Therefore, when I studied abroad, my age was 24years old. I think that it is too late. If I have studied abroad more early, I would have had many good experience and possibility. That is to say I did not have a route from japanese high school to university in foreign country.

In japanese high school, there were some high schools called Super English Language High School(SELHI). these schools were given some burget to engage in specific english education. But this undertaking finished 2009. maybe this undertaking could not improve Japanese english education in high school dramatically.

 If I had had a chance to know University education in foreign countries, I would have been interested to study abroad and desired foreign countries. For example, can I make an offer that University students in america teach and instruct in Japanese high schools??  If I can, many Japanese high school students will be interested to study abroad.

 When I spent a night that I could not sleep, I was thinking about this project. If the readers are students in foreign countries, I want you to cooperate with the project.

Prejudice studies(4)- Are all Japanese men HENTAI??

 Fortunatley, I always enjoy chatting with my foreign friends in skype or facebook. When we talk, we often talk about hobby or culture, studying and future. And I thought that they also enjoy chatting with other japanese friends too. But they felt disappointed to chat with other Japanese people. For example, my Bangladeshi friend said to me, why Japanese man is so nasty? also that my egyptian friend said to me, Japanese man is so rude and nasty.

 The reason why they said those things is when they chated with Japanese friends, they felt disgusting, because the Japanese men told nasty things to them. Moreover, my american female friend also said all japanese men are HENTAI.

  I always feel sad when I heared it from them. So is it true? Accutally, there are many porn movies in Japan. And many porn DVDs have produced too. I have heard that over 10000 porn stars are extremely active. Thesedays, some japanese porn stars take part in kinds of events in asian countries like a China and Taiwan They are also warmly received in these countries.

 Maybe, when some foreigner watch Japanese porn video, they make a misunderstanding that almost all of Japanese people are nasty. I have one of my japanese female friend who studied abroad in America. She told me that american people always ask her date everyday, and they like to watch japanese porn video.


 The reason why she was asked is a prejudice. So how should Japanese people behave not to be suffered from this prejudice?  At first, we need to have a dignity and politeness. Any other? I dont have a good idea about it^^: 

Prejudice studies (3) -Japanese has prejudice toward muslim-

 If interviewer ask me "What is your strong point?", I always answer "I have many friends all over the world.". Accually, I have many foreigner friends including muslim friends. However when my japanese friends knew that I have muslim friends, almost all them asked me,"Are there not bad people??" So, some japanese people think that muslim and islam countries are very dangerous.

 Maybe, the reason why they think is cause of terrorism like an Al Qaeda. In 9.11, many people were killed by suicided bombing. Also, many people were killed by invading Afghanistan.

 Of course, all muslim have taken part in sucide bombing or other act of terrorism. However, the prejudice is very huge in the world.

When I was in ninoi akino international airport, I took a taxi. and the driver is from mindanao and muslim. At first he said me, 'Dont feel scary, I am a muslim, but not dangerous'. Maybe he realized that muslim are feared by other people. Or he has an experience that he was made a misunderstood by christian or buddhist people.

So, I dont know that when this misunderstanding and prejudice end.

Prejudice studies (2) -Japanese has prejudice toward muslim-

 Prejudice often force people to make an misunderstanding.  In last blog, I wrote the reason why Japanese people has some prejudice of muslim. I think that our society rarely has communication with muslim. In my case, I have less muslim friends than Christian friends. Therefore, I do not have enough knowledge about muslim and the soiety.

 Today, I write the other misunderstanding. Before I talked with my Japanese friends. Then I talked that I have some muslim friends and sometimes chat with them. Then, one of my friend asked me "how many mothers does your muslim friends have? ".

 I think that this is a typical misunderstanding. Because he thought that all muslim countries has polygyny. Therefore, he asked me that how many mothers?  So, UAE, Morroco, Saudi Arabia are polygyny countries as far as I know. But some muslim countries are not polygyny countries. For example, Tunisia, Indonessia, Turkey.

 And some people also make a misunderstanding which they can have many wives in polygyny countries. Moreover some people envy this system. However,  they can have only 4 wives in their islam law basically. Its one of other misunderstanding.

 So, maybe some people think that polygyny are obscene. But its hard for them to keep family life of polygyny. Because the husbands have to treat wives equally in islam law. And they have to have a lost money to provide their wives too.

 If I had been born in these countries, Would I have chose to get some wives?  Maybe i will not. because I think that it is so hard for me to keep these relationships.

Prejudice studies (1) -Japanese has prejudice toward muslim-

 In this world, There are many prejudice toward other people. Having prejudice often make other people uncomfortable and mad. Why do people have prejudice toward other people? Today I write Japanese has prejudice toward muslim.

 In general, Japan is a island country. And our nation is called a racially homogeneous nation. It means that we do not have enough chance to communicate with foreigner although it became easy for us to communicate with foreigner through internet.

 Sure, Japan is close to China and Korea. therefore, There are some chinese and korean in japan. However, there are few muslims in Japan. In my case, before going on university, I didnot have a chance to communicate with muslim.

 But now, I can communicate with muslim, because I have some muslim friends. For example, tunisian, Morocconian, Alegerian, Egyptian, Indonessian, Bangladeshi, turkish, etc. As a result, I could get some knowlege of arabic country.

 However, almost all japanese dont have enough the knowledge. Actually, they have some prejudice toward muslim. For example, Almost all them think muslim girls always wear Abaya or Hijab. Islam countries are rich variety. But they donot know that.

 my egypitan friend had be angry this prejudice. when she chat with one japanese guy, he forced her to wear hijab. because he thought that all muslim girls always wear it.  This misunderstanding will make other muslim mad too.

so I think that misunderstaning and prejudice often make people mad. and it is very rude.

Japan Before and After

 Japan is a historical nation. The history is over 2000years. Now I write and analize about both acient and contemporary Japan. Especially, I point out language , political system and economy.

 Japanese language looks like a strange language in the world, because we always use 3 characters: Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. It is similar to use 3 characters both acient and contemporary Japan. However in contemporary Japan, we sometimes use some coined words. So some young Japanese people mix both Hiragana and katakana.

 Second, I mention about Japanese political systems both acient and contemporary japan. So our head of Japan has been emperor for 2000years. Before, emperors have huge power in politics. But now empero does not have a power in politis. So it is like a symbol although he is still head of Japan.

 Third, our omtemporary economy is similar to acient economy. The similarity is that our economy is affected by china through long time. The reason is why china has been huge country. However contemporary our economy is diffrent from acient Japan. In acient Japan, emporors and nobilities monopolized economical activites. But in contemporary Japan, all people can take part in economical activities.

In my conclusion, I pointed out similarity and diffirence of acient of contemporary Japan. So, I could find some similarities and diffeirences in language, political system and economy. If you want to analize, it is useful for you to point out similarity and diffirence.

the effect of divorce

The Effect of Divorce on Family Life

 

Dostoevsky said, “With love one can live even without happiness.” So if we find a person who loves each other, we often choose to get married with the partner. It maybe look like a wonderful. But Michel De Montaigne also said “Marriage is like a cage; one sees the birds outside desperate to get in, and those inside equally desperate to get out” So some couple sometimes want to get out from marriage. As a result, they divorce. According to a survey from Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (2009), about 251000 couples divorced in 2008. In international marriage case, the ratio of divorce is higher than normal marriage. I think that there are some reasons. For example, If you marriage foreign partner, it will be harder and more difficult for you to communicate with the partner, because of difference of language. Other reason is difference of culture. For example, Japanese people are usually shy and they do not usually tell ‘I love you’ to their partner. But some foreigner can not understand this thing. Then, some international couple often make a misunderstanding. In the worst case, they fight, bawl and hit each other. Finally, they will decide to divorce.

And what is the main reasons about divorce? First, it may be an inconsistent of character. So, couple share their times in private time. But if they do not feel comfortable in their sharing time, they often feel stressful and seductive. Therefore, it is important for couples to feel comfortable to keep their good relationship. Second, I think that relations with the opposite sex is another reason. That to say that, couples spend not only their partner but also their friends or workmates in daily life. It is a normal thing. But some people often get jealous when their partner talk with opposite sex. I think that it is not bad. However, some people doubt partner’s cheating, when they find that partner chat with other people or talk with the opposite sex. Third, some people beat partner, because of stress, rude character and drunk. If partner is rude, it is difficult for couples to keep the relationship. Fourth, some couples do not have enough knowledge to run family life, because they got married when they were too young like a 17 or 18 years old.  In other word, child gets marry to child. In this case, if they get pregnant and give birth, it is not easy for them to provide their babies, because they do not become self-reliant in economically and socially. Especially, there are many people who got married too early in developing countries. In addition to that, almost all them suffer from poverty.

And what is the effect of divorce? I think that if they have children, there are substantial effect to their children. For example, their children may be overcome with apprehensions, because they often see fierce argument of parents. Furthermore, some children do not have a good record in school, because they can not concentrate on studying and one parent does not have enough time to pay attention to children. Therefore, they will not work in good jobs in their future too. In addition to that, they can not get married with good partner, because they did not have a good experience of marriage when they were children. In parents case, some parents who divorced from partner often feel stressful and melancholy, because they do not meet their children many times after divorcing. If they live with children or live near place, they can meet in weekend or vacation. However in international divorce, it is very hard for one parent to meet his/her children, because some children went back to another parent’s home country.

In my conclusion, they are many bad effects of divorce in both parents and children. What should we prevent from these bad effects? I think that we have to think seriously about marriage. And if they decide to divorce, they need to have enough time to spend their children after divorcing.

Countries in Three Groups

 

Over 400years ago, almost all countries were monarchy. This typical system was that one king or emperor controlled his country. Moreover some nobilities have their manors and peasants. That is to say that one people has huge power. So, it had existed from ancients time to recent times. Some peasants and slaves sometimes rose in revolt. But they always were put down the revolt. One of the famous Gladiator ( Spartacus) rose in revolt to the Roman Empire. It is called Third Slave War. Then many slaves also took part in the war. But unfortunately, they could not defeat the Roman Empire although they had fought against the empire for 2 years. So, I think that it is very hard for normal people to defeat huge power. However, there was a big happening that people could defeat the huge power from 1641 to 1649 in UK. It is called Puritan Revolution. In this revolution, Charles1 was executed by people. And the government power transferred from one people to national assembly and the public. In France, Louis 16 was killed with Marie Antoinette by French people in French Revolution. Today, Country can be divided into three groups: democratic countries, socialist countries and despotic countries.

 First, Democratic countries have fair and popular election, disclosure of government and freedom of expression. This democratic system is linked in liberalism, constitutionalism, capitalism and parliamentary government. And these days, Almost all countries adopt democratic system. Japan and Philippines are also democratic countries. On the other hands, some intellectuals point out that democratic system intend to be mobocracy. The reason is why the mass of people take part in the process of decision making and they decide a plan of action through election and national assembly. Unfortunately, All mass of people are not intellectual. Therefore, they are sometimes controlled by mass media and take action on their own feelings. However, almost all people support this democratic system, because democratic countries guarantee human right and free economic activity of people basically. Furthermore, all people can also take part in political movement and operate government through election and running as a candidate at a general election.

Second, there are some socialist countries in this world. When the age of mass production began as a result of the Industrial Revolution, the gulf between rich and poor became very wide. Many poor children and wage earner were worked at dangerous area like mine and unsanitary factories. Then, there were a few capitalist and many poor worker. So, socialist countries came into this world to correct this defect of capitalism. Therefore, socialist countries insist on restriction or abolition of market economy system, planned economy, social security and welfare state. Especially, the Soviet Union had had as huge power as America until Soviet broke down. The reason is why Soviet was one-party dictatorship and bureaucracy. In other words, socialist countries intend to be decomposition. Before the breaking down, there were many socialist countries in this world. But now, a few socialist countries exist. For example, China, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, North Korean and Syria. But China and Vietnam’s economy are mixed economy.

Third, there are a few despotic countries in this world When the country was suffered starvation or the instability of a political situation, people hope that strong leader conduct their countries. One representative example is Nazi Germany. And there were some military governments too. For example, Cambodia (the Pol Pot regime), Iraq (the Hussein Saddam regime ) and Chile ( Pinochet Augusto regime). Today, there is still military government in Republic of Fiji and the Central African Republic.

My Ideal House

 

I think that it is important for my ideal house to have both good location, functional, interior and outer decoration, house garden, family.

First, living in a good location is essential in my ideal house, because if the house is not located in good place, I often feel tired or mad. So, my house which is located in downtown is not good. Because, downtown has some dangers, bad smell, dirty and cramped. On the other hand, the house is located in rural area, my quality of living will be rich. Rural area has clean air, rich nature( rich forest, clean river, near beach), large land for living  and not crowded. If I live in America, I would like to choose Long Beach or Virginia Beach. These two areas are typical popular rural area in America. The ideal location is that I can go to a metropolis within 40-60 minutes by car or train. I want to live in rural area, but convenience is as important as rural.

Second, it is necessity for the house to have functionality. In the concrete, the house has to be strong from earthquake and fire. Furthermore, the house must be a barrier-free house. Then, my old grandfather and grandmother can live with me in the house. And I will add some security equipment in my house too. In addition that, I will ask architects to prevent water condensation when they build my home.

Third, I plan to decorate my house more wonderful and more wonderful. In my outer decoration, I think that my house is built of red brick like a Dutch style. So, the red brick house will look like elegant and dignified. In my interior decoration, I want a fireplace, a Persian carpet, a chandelier, a clockwork clock and a round table in a living room. And in my room, there is a big bookshelf. I can imagine that I grow pleased with myself with surrounded by many books and thesis.

Fourth, I attach great importance to make a good garden. For example, I will make a pond in my garden. And there are many fishes in the pond. Furthermore, the garden is coved with grass. In addition that, there are Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar and Audi in my garage.

Finally, I think it is the most important thing for me to describe my dream house is I can live with family. If I live alone in the house, I will feel lonely even if I can live a Luxurious house. My ideal house is need my wife and children.

Which one do you think that you’re the most important for your personally in  fame, power, riches or good looks? In my case, I think that riches are the most important for my personally, because if I am a rich person, I can get almost of things which I would like to get. In most countries, almost all  us adopt the capitalist system. Therefore, if I cannot earn enough money, I cannot live in this society, study in school and buy enough foods. On the other hand, if I can be a rich person or I was born in celebrity family, I can have many delicious foods, live in comfortable house and study in good school. So, Riches give us a wonderful life.

Second, I think that next important thing is power, because power is very close to relate in riches. For example, let all us imagine Imelda Marcos. When she was a first lady, she collected over 3000 pair of shoes and over 500 brassiere in Palasyo ng Malakanyang. The reason why she could do it is that she has a very large power with President Marcos. In other words, if we have a power, we can get much money and expand possibility more and more.

 Third, if I have fame in my life, it is better, because getting a fame will leave our name in the world after we die. For example, Andrew Carnegieis the one of the persons who  have millions. In addition to that, he was know one of a famous benefactor with steel king. After dying, I can not use all my entire fortune. But if I can get fame, I will be familiar with my name  by many people all over the world and my achievement is taken over by many younger people too.

 Fourth, I do not  think that it is not important for me to get a good looks. Because If I get a good looks by surgery, my ficial appearance does not give birth to money for me. Furthermore, the looks will decline with ageing. Therefore, I do not need to get a good looks. And I also think that polishing myself is more important than good looks.

 In my conclusion, the most important thing is riches for me. And Second is power, third is fame, fourth is good looks. So, if I am a rich person, I think that I can get power, fame and good looks in my life.

  Finally, becoming rich give us many happiness. So, we should consider how we can rich in our future.

About EPA problems in Japan and Philippines

 In 2010, Japan and Philippines concluded an economic partnership agreement(EPA). After becoming effective this EPA, Japan has accepted Filipino/Filipina nurses and caregivers from Philippines. In addition to that, We also concluded EPA with Indonesia. They work in Japanese hospitals or nursing home as a trainee to pass national examination of nurse and caregiver. However, The ratio of successful applicants is only 9.6% (2012). By the way, the ratio of successful applicants of Japanese people is always over 90.0%. So, it is not hard for Japanese people to pass the examination. Then, why is it hard for Filipino/ Filipina to pass the exam.

 

The reason is very simple. So, it is caused by poor of their Japanese skill, because they did not have a chance to study enough Japanese. I think that they need to understand not only standard Japanese but also medial Japanese to pass the exam. At least, they have to study Japanese more and more before they work in Japan.

Concept of beauty and beauty contest

THE CONCEPT OF BEAUTY

 

What is the concept of beauty? And can we define the beauty? Before, I investigate this concept from my 2 friends(Turkish guy and Italian girl). However, It is difficult for me to judge this concept from this survey, because the sample was a few.

But in general, I think that it is different of culture, period and religion. In history, there are many beautiful women in this world. For example, Cleopatra is known as famous beautiful woman. But Plutarch( one of the famous historian in the Roman Empire) said, her looks was not peerless, but she was an intellectual person. And Gaius Julius also admired her intelligence and voice. So she could speak Arabic, Hebrew, Syriac, Egyptian, Ethiopian, etc. Her case is a good example. Because, beauty standards is not only face but also other factor. But actress looks who acted her were good like Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Monica bellucci. Furthermore, beauty is affected by a figure. When We see the Venus of Milo, we think that the statue is beautiful. Why do you think so? One of the reason is mathematics. Actually, when the engraver made the statue, he considered the golden ratio. That is to say figure is also important for us to judge beauty or ugly.

How about the beauty standards in japan? In Heian period(1000years ago), the  standards was moon face, white skin, plump, long hair and small eyes. In Edo period(300years ago), the beauty standards was slender face, black hair, white skin, high nose and small mouth. This is a typical example which the standards changed through long history. Therefore, if we meet a beautiful women who lives in Heian period or Edo period, we don’t think that they are really beautiful.

However, I think that we consider face important when we judge beauty or  not beauty. The typical example is a beauty contest. Today, there are many beauty contests all over the world. For example, Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss international, Miss Earth, etc. There are also many beauty contests in japan. Almost of all winners have beauty faces. Of course, we have all of  taste in face. But in general, we can agree these faces are beautiful. In my conclusion, today the most important factor that we judge beauty is face. In other words, the concept of beauty is had control by “FACE”.

The Role of the Media in Our Lives

 

Today, it is easy for us to collect information in free, because we can watch TV or read newspaper and online news in internet. It looks like a flood. I also gather many information in these media. In statistics of Japanese newspaper company, over 5 hundred million people read newspaper and 1 billion people use internet all over the world. These media has very huge influence for people. For example, people could defeat some political powers in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. Their source of power was information on media like a twitter and facebook. Therefore, we have to think about the role of the media carefully as much as we can. If we do not, a tragedy of Nazi Germany will be repeated again, because Adolf Hitler has talented to use media. The media can also have a bad influence to our lives too.  In addition to that, if information from media is not correct, it will be easy for us to make a misunderstand. And we also have to have a correct knowledge not to be cheated by media too.

First, media gives many entertainment to us. For example, when we watch TV, we sometimes watch TV show, comedy drama, variety drama, traditional Japanese comic storytelling, anime and comic backchat. Why does media produce many entertainment contents? I think that the reason is we want restoration of serenity, peace of mind and joyful. In this modern society, we often feel stress in working, household, other private scenes. Therefore, if we watch entertainment shows in TV or internet, we can remove the stressful through taking pleasure in these media. And after removing the stressful, we will do our best in daily life from tomorrow. Furthermore, if we enjoy watching TV, we can also enjoy talking about the TV shows with family. Enjoying talking with family is indispensability to make a good family. So, I think that it is one of the good point which media has. Actually, Japanese anime is supported by many people all over the world. In other words, it is important for us to watch entertainment contents. That is to say, media provide us many joyful too.

Second, media provide not only entertainment contents but also educational contents to us. For example, Japanese student can study many subjects like math, science, English social studies in TV. Moreover, We can study many university’s subjects in TV and online. Almost all subjects are free. If you use internet, you can watch famous university’s lessons like a Harvard, UCLA, Stanford, other good universities. Especially, Udacity, Coursera, Edx are famous online university lesson websites that we can study free. Before, School shoulder the responsibility of education for students. However, media can engage in education too. So, the merit is that we do not need to go to school, because it is easier than studying in classroom. In addition to that, we can study good university subjects even if we are not university students. Maybe, it will be much convenient to study in the future. I think that this style is one of the function in media.

Third, media have to be requested as a monitoring device of political power, because media can gather many information about politics and have great influence. Today, there are TV program about politics and social problems. So, politicians often cheat people, hide bad information and insist only good things. Then we are often cheated by politicians because, we have less information than politician and government official. In this case, media has to collect information and convey to us.

Can japanese people understand Filipino time?

 One of Japanese characteristic is being punctual. Generally, Japanese people are not late for an appointment in private scene and business scene. Many Japanese people can gather about 5minutes earlier from the appointment time.  It is called “Moving five minutes earlier” in our culture. But this attitude is not universal notion which is shared all over the world. Especially, they have “their time” in a southern and Latin countries.    Unfortunately, We have “Okinawa time” in the Okinawa area. Okinawa is most located in southern Japan. Being late over 30minutes is not rare in Okinawa area. Furthermore, we were permitted 200years ago in japan even if we were late. However, after we stopped closing my country to outsider and started to bring in the solar calendar, being punctual has been fixed gradually with developing industry. Therefore, when we ride a train, the announce: ”I am sorry to be late” sounds in the train even if the train is late about 10minutes.

 In comparison with Japan, It seems that they do not have the culture of being punctual in Philippines. Nobody came to the meeting place on time although I met many friends. If they are late only 10minutes, they seem be good in this country. This is say “ Filipino time”. It is permissible in private scene. But this Filipino time sometimes comes out life in society. In my case, when I went to meeting place on time, the staff did not come to there on time. And 30minutes later on time, she just sent an e-mail ”I cannot go there because I have another work” If I am her, I will send e-mail until the time. It is a common sense in our culture. Furthermore, I will apologize another day by face to face. That is one of general manners. But our culture is not always other country’s culture.

 So, how should we be on friendly terms with those Filipino/Filipina? In this case, one Filipino said to me “some Filipino/Filipina are sometimes late, then you should confirm where they are in now as soon as possible ” I think that this advice will be useful when you communicate with them.

International Relationship for the Future

 

Today, there are some ethnic conflict, terrorist incident and genocide all over the world. For example, there is one ethnic conflict in North Ireland. One of the famous terrorist organization (IRA) insist that North Ireland should separate from UK and revert to Republic of Ireland. And they have tried to engage in terrorist activities like a bombing in mall. Furthermore, India, China and Pakistan have a territorial issue in Kashmir. Their armies sometimes crash by border line each other. In turkey, Iran, Iraq, many Kurds has been persecuted, because they are a minority race. In Philippines, they also have much damage from serial terrorism by Grupong Abu Sayyaf and Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

Why do these conflicts exist? It is not easy for us to define only one reason. However, I think that it is had origin in the difference of religion and culture. Religion is very precious. But the bad aspect intend to be exclusive. For example, Christian people do not accept the Koran. On the other hands, Muslim can not also accept that Jesus Christ is son of God. So, they think that he is only a prophet. In addition to that, people who have faith in a monotheistic religion can not understand polytheism.

So, how should we get over this obstacle to understand difference of religion, culture, race their principles and opinion. I think that it is most important thing is education. Unfortunately, we did not have enough chance to study other cultures, because Japan is an island and racially homogeneous countries. And we have few experience to communicate with foreigner. It’s a big problem. Because if we do not have enough knowledge about the foreigners, we intend to make a misunderstanding of them. And we sometimes have prejudice.

Therefore, when we are a student in junior high school, or high school, teachers have to teach other culture for students. If they can, we will learn other people more deeply

Personal Hygiene

 

 In this world, 70% of planet is sea. But we can not drink the sea water. And the water which we can drink is under 0.1% too. That is to say, water problem is very important for us to survive in this world. Japan is called very safe and clean country by many people all over the world. Especially, we can drink an unboiled water through turn a faucet on. Of course the unboilded water is not really good taste. But if we drink it, we will not have a stomachache. In other words, Japan is very advanced hygiene maintenance country in this planet. However, some developing countries hygiene maintenance is not good.

 For example, how about Philippines hygiene maintenance? I think that it was improved dramatically after the privatization of water supply business even if it is still under development. Before the privatization of water supply business, people who live in metro manila could not get enough water through 24 hours. And some poor people had stolen water. Of course, they could not also drink clean water. Therefore, improvement of water supply business is great for the poor people. Especially, when President Joseph Estrada decided to place under private management of the water business, Japanese company (Mitsubishi commercial company) cooperated with the Ayala financial group and newly join the business.

 I think that Philippines government should cooperate with many Japanese companies, because these companies have many good technology skill for the water problems. For example, One Japanese company has a technology which they can construct a desalination plant. So, they have already constructed in in Qatar. And another company developed an apparatus for purifying of rainwater. Philippines is one of the island and tropical country. Therefore, I think that these technologies will be useful and helpful for Philippines water problems in the future. In my conclusion, high quality technology is necessary for people to solve the personal hygiene in Philippines.

International comunicating

An  Observation of Lunch Party

 

This essay is an observation record about the lunch party that I attended last week for international students in my university.The members were almost of all Asian people. For example, Chinese, Turkish, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Iranian, Myanmarese, Taiwanese, Thai, etc. Especially, Chinese and Korean students had a majority in our member. In comparison with, Japanese student was only me. So the Japanese student was like an endangered species. And this difference of ratio shows the difference of English educational enthusiasm. That is to say, Chinese and Korean students think that studying abroad is useful for them to get a good job. Because if they speak English fluently, they can communicate with foreign people. And Standard language used in business scene is English. However, few Japanese students study abroad because almost of all them have an inward-looking.

Furthermore, that party had both good point and bad point. The good point is, we could communicate with other international students, many sisters, professors and staffs. Furthermore, I could eat some good Filipino dishes. Especially, Turon was really good. Later, I will try to cook Turon in my condominium.

However, there were so many bad point in the party too. First, the host could not do a job in efficient steps. For example, a microphone’s condition were not good. It prevented our program from proceeding smoothly. I think that they had to check the microphone before. And the presentation kept us from eating lunch. Therefore, the lunch was not warm.

Finally, I think that this party was good although the party had some bad points ”
